About Me

I have a business called Nose to the Grindstone in Portland, Oregon and have been sharpening hair shears and other instruments, tools and knives for over 31 years.

After working for several years in Los Angeles for a pharmaceutical company I by chance ran into a guy that sharpened hair shears. He was a mobile service. We struck up an agreement that I would not work in his territory and I got only about two hours of training. I proceeded to build my own machine and, until the quality of hair shears improved, was pretty happy with my work. A few years later I bought a Twice as Sharp and later added a flat hone.

I have two other website businesses: www.debrafinck.com and www.debsmakeup.com

The second site is a professional makeup line that works well with my salon contacts.

I have been able to increase salon business by helping salons increase their profits....especially in the current econmomy.

I also am a trainer for Wolff Industries' Hira-To Flat Hone Machine.

We're glad to have you as a member. Would love to have some feedback with your experiences. What do you sharpen knives with? We are in the process of adapting an articulating arm similar to the Twice as Sharp for scissor sharpening.. As a hair shear sharpener, I would love to hear your opinion. Do you think it would be fesible for sharpening shears on a belt system? Do you use a belt sharpener already? What is your opinion of the Sharp Machine?
